Kennedy Park Redevelopment – Village of Weston

The Village of Weston selected REI Engineering in spring 2024 to implement the Kennedy Park Master Plan, following a competitive bidding process.

The comprehensive plan outlines a five-phase redevelopment that will include:

  • Five baseball/softball fields
  • Three new pavilions
  • Outdoor hockey rink
  • Batting cages
  • Expanded pedestrian circulation and outdoor patios
  • Two playgrounds
  • Skatepark expansion
  • Parking enhancements
  • A stormwater management facility

REI Engineering is currently finalizing the Phase 1 softball fields, a creek path, and the stormwater management system. One of the early challenges was designing a stormwater solution that would serve the entire site across all future phases. This required establishing preliminary grades for nearly all ball fields and much of the site to ensure long-term feasibility. Pond sizing and elevations were influenced by existing site conditions, including the creek, depth to bedrock, and existing storm infrastructure—making coordination critical.

In support of the Village’s capital campaign, REI was also tasked with developing a full 3D model of the park. Our team produced detailed renderings and fly-through videos to help visualize the future park and support fundraising efforts.

Another key design challenge involved the location of the Phase 1 softball field, which sits on a site with significant elevation changes. To accommodate this, REI designed a terraced layout using retaining walls on both the north and south sides of the field. Overcoming this challenge required collaboration with a structural engineer and architect to develop plans for the retaining wall system, dugouts, and footings.

Final construction plans for Phase 1 were issued for bid in spring 2025. REI facilitated the bidding process, which led to the selection of PGA as the General Contractor. Throughout construction, REI has provided ongoing support through construction administration and staking services. Phase 1 is on track for completion by the end of October 2025.
